Strawberry Dreaming Garden
Teachers, students and parents from Monash Primary School increased the productivity of their school veggie garden while stimulating their imagination and acquiring horticultural skills. Students designed and installed a snake-shaped garden bed to grow strawberries. Two large circular raised garden beds were also implemented. The project also involved the creation of a composting area and the installation of a bee motel, which have helped to teach students about natural pest management and insect lifecycles.
The school garden is maintained by students and during school holidays, families are invited to water the garden beds and to harvest fruits and vegetables.
“I love the Strawberry snake because the strawberries keep us very fit and healthy. I also liked building the strawberry snake because it seems very, very, very fun." – Ben, Year-3 Student
