How to Grow Radishes

How to Grow Radishes

Radishes are fast, but healthy food! They grow really quickly and can be ready to pick in just 4 to 8 weeks. Their colourful, round, red balls are crisp and crunchy and ideal for slicing thinly into salads or making into fun edible critters. Give them a ‘grow’!

How to Grow Radishes
  • Position: Full sun
  • Water: Water regularly
  • Soil: Well drained
  • Harvesting: 4-8 weeks after planting depending on variety (check label)
  • When to Grow: Mostly from spring, but in warmer climates, they can be grown all year round  (check label)

How to grow in a garden

Step 1: Fill starter pots or trays with Yates Seed Raising Mix. Sow seeds 6mm deep, cover, firm down and water well. Keep the soil moist so the seeds don’t dry out.

Step 2: While the seedlings are growing, choose a sunny spot in the garden and prepare the planting area well by loosening the soil and digging in Yates Dynamic Lifter Soil Improver & Plant Fertiliser. You can also sow direct into the prepared beds.

Step 3: Once seedlings have emerged, feed weekly with Yates Thrive Vegie & Herb Liquid Plant Food.  Allow seedlings to grow to about 3-4cm before transplanting.

Step 4: When transplanting them into your prepared garden bed, thin out weak plants and ensure seedlings are well spaced (check label for specifications). Mulch with an organic mulch, such as sugar cane or pea straw and water in well.

Step 5: Feed weekly with Yates Thrive Vegie & Herb Liquid Plant Food.

Step 6: Harvest while roots are young and tender. Leaving them in the ground can spoil their taste.

Step 7: Make successive sowings every few weeks to extend the harvest window.
